The Most Breathtaking and Iconic
Platinum Engagement Rings

Royalty and Hollywood celebrities are known for gifting their betrothed with the most opulent and exquisite platinum engagement rings.

From Queen Elizabeth’s solitaire diamond to Elizabeth Taylor’s 29.4-carat diamond, these baubles were all set in platinum, which is the most secure setting for their valuable diamonds.

Below please find anecdotes behind a few of the most iconic rings that stand the test of time, and influence engagement ring designs today.

Queen Elizabeth II’s elegant ring from Prince Philip is a platinum band with a 3-carat solitaire diamond and five smaller diamonds on each side. The diamonds for her ring have a special history: They came from a tiara belonging to Philip's mother, Princess Andrew of Greece. Her Majesty has worn her timeless platinum engagement ring for over 70 years.

Prince Rainier III of Monaco originally proposed to actress Grace Kelly with an eternity band of rubies and diamonds. When he saw that other celebrities were wearing larger diamond rings, he purchased a 10.5-carat emerald-cut diamond flanked by two baguettes, set in platinum.

Joe DiMaggio gifted Marilyn Monroe a platinum eternity band, complete with 35 baguette-cut diamonds on their wedding day, which ultimately became known as her wedding band.

Mike Todd gifted jewelry collector Elizabeth Taylor with a 29.4-carat emerald-cut diamond set in platinum, which Elizabeth reportedly referred to as her "ice skating rink."
